“Embrace Wisdom”

Not an easy thing to do, embracing wisdom.  Our flesh only desires to please itself no matter the price.  We have to train our flesh and teach it what is wise and what is not wise and that in itself is wisdom.  Several places in the Bible it speaks of beating our flesh into submission because it is weak, Paul speaks of it often.  I would like for us to take a train to wisdom town in April and go through Proverbs to seek the wisdom and discipline it requires for us to live this life and to grasp an understanding of wisdom and it’s purpose in our lives today.  Not an easy task I assure you but I believe we can gain wisdom together since we are one body in Christ we beat this flesh together to train it to do the right thing and not the wrong one.  Let’s look at Proverbs 1 today and understand the purpose and theme.  The most profound statement in Proverbs 1 is in verse 7 and it is the key verse for today.  Here is an interesting tidbit of information the phrase “fear of the Lord” is in the NIV 22 times and is only found one time in the New Testament, in Acts 9:31 and was not used in the Old Testament until 2 Chronicles 17:10 and is in Proverbs 10 times, but “fear” and “Lord” are used 130 times in one form or another and in the New Testament not until Acts 9 and in only 5 books of the New Testament and only once in Revelation and 20 times in Proverbs.  See a pattern emerges already.  To gain wisdom we must study the past and learn from it because as the old saying goes history repeats itself and I add to that if we do not learn from this past we are doomed to fail over and over again and that is the definition of insanity.  Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Key Verse:

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
