All the Levites who were musicians—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and
relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and
playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding
trumpets. 13 The trumpeters and singers joined in
unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to
the LORD and sang:
"He is good;
his love endures forever."
Then the temple of the LORD was filled with
a cloud, 14 and the priests could not perform their
service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of
God.
Can
you imagine the sound coming from within that temple on that day?
How awesome to be in the presence of His Glory in that day.
It doesn’t stop there. Solomon’s
prayer is awesome too. I allowed my
minds eye to see that day and to hear all that was going on and it sent chills
up and down my spine to be in such Glory. To
see the cloud of the LORD descend into that place to know that God Himself was
present in that temple to hear the music playing and singers singing and then
this prayer of dedication. Let’s
look at the closing of the prayer: 40 "Now, my God, may your eyes
be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
41
"Now arise, O LORD God, and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
May your priests, O LORD God, be clothed
with salvation,
may your saints rejoice in your goodness.
42
O LORD God, do not reject your anointed one.
Remember the great love promised to David
your servant."
Now
when Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the
burnt offering and the sacrifices. That
image in itself is amazing. We have
not seen fire from heaven in our time. I
could go on and on but I know your time is valuable.
PRaP these chapters and allow your heart and mind to see the scene of
this glorious temple that was laden in gold.
Hear the sounds of the trumpets and the cymbals and the singers.
