These
kings never seem to do what the LORD has commanded them to do.
They all seem to kind of do what God wants but always seem to be able to
leave out a detail or two and this provokes the anger of God.
But God is a loving God and He is a God of second chances.
Let’s look at an example. In
1 Kings 21 Ahab wanted the vineyard of Naboth but Naboth was not willing to sell
the land of his inheritance so Ahab went in and sulked and refused to eat.
Now Ahabs wife Jezebel plotted a way for her hubby to get the vineyard
and had Naboth killed. This of course angered the LORD because it was murder. When
the LORD sent Elijah to Ahab and told him his blood will one day be licked up by
dogs he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted and he lay in sackcloth
and went around meekly. Let’s
read what the LORD says, 28
Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite: 29
"Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has
humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it
on his house in the days of his son."
Now if Ahab would have changed his ways at this point God would have
forgotten but nooooooo Ahab is still a mess and it cost him his life.
Sin, what is it good for? Absolutely
NOTHING!
