We
know David has a heart he spared the life of Saul and his family.
David wanted to honor his friend Jonathan who was the son of Saul and
they went and got Mephibosheth who was Jonathan’s son.
He was crippled as a young child in an accident and was living with
servants. David took him in and
gave him all the land that once belonged to Saul and Mephibosheth ate at the
kings table. Now as we move along
in this book we see that David’s heart was in the right place but someone
didn’t believe it and when he sent men to express the sympathy to the Ammonite
king for the loss of his father they humiliated the messengers and sent out
their army to battle against David. They
had hired soldiers that retreated at the battle and so the Ammonites were
defeated. Now Mr. Big Heart was in
the season of war and was hanging out at the palace while his army was out
battling and he saw this woman taking a bath.
She was a beautiful woman and he sent for her and they, well, did
something and she became pregnant. David
had her husband put on the front line of the war because he knew that he would
be killed and of course we all know that David has sinned in the eyes of the
LORD. David has committed adultery,
murder, and has been deceitful. So
God has taken away the son that was born out of this and David’s kingdom was
always at war. Lot’s of great
lessons in these chapters but the key thing here is that sin caused the fall of
David. Read these words today and
then go read what is happening in Israel.

Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you
despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.'
