Samuel 6 1
When the ark of the LORD had been in Philistine territory seven months, 2 the
Philistines called for the priests and the diviners and said, "What shall
we do with the ark of the LORD ? Tell us how we should send it back to its
place."
3
They answered, "If you return the ark of the god of Israel, do not send it
away empty, but by all means send a guilt offering to him. Then you will be
healed, and you will know why his hand has not been lifted from you."
Do
you notice anything that just smacks you in the face about these verses?
Now the Philistines have had enough of this thing and are wanting to get
it back to the Israelites so they are wanting to be sure that they do it right.
Now the Philistines have grown to understand the power of the LORD and
actually have began to fear Him. The
priests and diviners have no respect for God and have not learned to fear Him.
The Philistines ask what shall we do with the ark of the LORD?, and the
priest and diviners said, ”If you return the ark of the god (NOTE lower case)
of Israel”. I don’t know about
you but that just slapped me right in the face as I read it.
We continue on and Samuel subdues the Philistines at Mizpah, Izrael asks
for a king to rule over them and Samuel appoints Saul as king.
We close today with Samuel giving Saul a message from God and that is
where we will begin tomorrow.
