Welcome
to 1st Samuel we will obviously be covering the life of Samuel and in
chapter one is his birth and dedication. Next
we hear Hannah’s prayer and learn of Eli’s wicked sons and man they did evil
in the eyes of the LORD. These guys
were the sons of the Priest and their wicked deeds were against the LORD
directly so He planned to do away with them.
Now little Sammy was left in the hands of Eli the Priest for he was
Hannah’s first born son and dedicated to the priesthood and one night God
called Samuel. But he was too
little to understand what he was hearing and after 3 times Eli finally realized
that it was the LORD calling him and told him how to answer when He called
again. Samuel grew up to be a
strong man of God and God was with him. Next
the Philistines capture the Ark of the Covenant and Eli’s two sons who were
responsible for the ark died as well and then Eli himself died when he fell
backwards off his chair after he heard the news about the Ark and his sons. Now
the Philistines didn’t know what they had gotten themselves in to.
Even their god Dagon was knocked on his faced in front of the Ark of God.
After they picked his statue up and put it back in its place the next day
they found him face down and the head and hands were broken off and laying on
the threshold of the door. I can
imagine old Dagon wanted the heck out of there.
God’s power defeats all false gods of this world.
Even the ones of today! God
is a jealous God not playing second fiddle to nobody!
Ask Dagon he will tell you if he could LOL.
