and the spies, crossing the Jordan, circumcision at Gilgal, and the fall
of Jericho. Lot of data to
cover this weekend. Well in
Joshua chapter one God told Joshua to be strong and courageous and that
is exactly what he did. When
he sent spies into the land he found out that their reputation preceded
them and the people melted with fear.
Now three days later it is time to cross the Jordon and off they
went. The Ark of the
Covenant was carried into the Jordon and the water piled up in heaps and
the Levites were standing on dry ground and the Israelites crossed the
Jordon without even getting their feet wet.
Now this was an amazing thing because at this point and time the
river would have been at flood stage but Israel crossed on dry ground.
This was also the sign that the LORD was with Joshua as He was
with Moses. Now Joshua had all the uncircumcised Israelites circumcised
before they went any further because they wanted to be sure that they
followed the God’s laws perfectly.
Now God had Joshua march around the city of Jericho for 7 days
and on the seventh day they blasted the trumpets and shouted and the
walls of Jericho fell. Now
here is an interesting piece we do not hear much about. 26
At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the
LORD is the man who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: Jericho
was not to be rebuilt. I think it is on the map today.
Wonder at what cost the people who build there?
Wonder if there are any records available to show this curse
being carried out? OK time
