YAY, now here is some of the good stuff.
In Chapter 17 is what I think is a precursor to the resurrection of
Jesus Christ. The Israelites were constantly coming against
Moses and Aaron and God did something really cool. He had
Moses collect a staff from each of the leaders of the tribes of Israel and
also Aaron’s staff as a representative of the Levites. Now
understand that the staffs back then were more then likely made of an
extremely hard wood from the acacia tree. Not only that but
it would be covered with pitch or tar to preserve it. Now
God told Moses to put all these staffs before the altar of the LORD and the
staff that budded would be their leader. So the next day
when Moses went to pull the staffs out of the tent Aarons staff not only
budded but blossomed, branched, and produced almonds. How
cool is that? God took a dead branch of acacia wood and
turned it into an almond tree. Here is why I think it is a
sign of Christ resurrection. The branch is representative
of us of mans flesh. We are dead in our sin and covered
with pitch. Christ came to experience just that, our flesh.
Christ was put at the altar of God like these staffs were and God took
the dead and brought it gloriously back to life in its purest form.
The blossoms of an almond tree are white which symbolizes the purity of
Christ. The almonds are the fruit of the Spirit of God,
spreading and multiplying. This event brought fear into the
Israelites hearts because they knew they could not go in front of God at the
tent because they would be put to death. They had to go
through the Levites to get to God. But in the next chapters
comes the rules that were to be followed by the Levites and their families and
also regulations of how to handle the dead. Also the death
of Aaron because of his own sin and Edom denies passage for the Israelites.
You want to know about Aarons sin don’t you? Read
about in Chapter 20. God bless you all! Stay
tuned God has a message for you!
