In a nutshell here is what we are going to
cover today. Abraham is tested, Sarah Dies, Isaac gets
married, Abraham dies, Isaac and Rebekah have twins of which Esau sells his
birthright to Jacob for a meal. I find Abraham’s
obedience to God amazing. God told Abraham to sacrifice his
only son as a burnt offering. Can you imagine what was
going through this child’s mind when his daddy was about to plunge that
knife into his chest? Look at some of the between the lines
things in this chapter. See if you can find anything
familiar and compare to what happened to Christ. Now Sarah
lived to be 127 years old and Abraham lived to be 175 and even though Abraham
was old he married again and before he died he fathered 6 more sons.
Tell me God didn’t have His hand in this. Abraham
left all his wealth to Isaac but still gave his other children generous gifts.
Very interestingly it gives a short account about Ishmael’s sons and
the last sentence of Ishmaels son reads: “And they lived in hostility
towards all their brothers.”, and that is it there is no more. Now
Jacob and Esau well read for yourselves. They seem to be
typical brothers, or do they?
