“First Person”  Part 1 of 5

What exactly does that mean?  First in line?  First to see? First to hear?  God gave Moses “First person”.  What my understanding is that it means that you have been given presence of God.  Moses saw the spirit of God in a burning bush.  Adam and Eve walked with God so they were the first, First Person.  Not many others in scripture can claim first person status.  Angels were sent and God’s voice was heard but otherwise nobody else.  Christ is always in First Person with God in the physical.  Well is God in First Person with himself?  Father, Son, Holy Spirit?  Something to think about that’s for sure.   Moses was just like us though.  He had no special skills that got him in the presence of God other than the fact God chose him to do His will.  If you read the account in Exodus Moses whined.  Gave excuses to God on why he should choose someone else to do the job.

Excuse #1: 11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt ?"  (Moses is saying he isn’t good enough)

Excuse #2: 13 Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?" (Lack of faith in who God is.)

Excuse #3: 1 Moses answered, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?" (Again lack of faith)

Excuse #4: 10 Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."  (Lack of faith and worried about what others think of him)

Then Moses said: 13 But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it."

Tell me that God isn’t patient.  How many times would you listen to excuse after excuse and not get a tad upset.  By what I am reading here God was angry at Moses because he kept doubting God’s power.

14 Then the LORD's anger burned against Moses

Matthew 7:7-8
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
