“For where your treasure
is, there your heart will be also?”
I heard this used in a fund raiser.
Now that I have had time to pray over it and think about it I think it
was used out of context. But then again maybe it wasn’t
because worldly people believe that their heart belongs to the place in which
their money is tied up. Me personally, since I have no
worldly wealth to speak of my time is my investment. Where
I put the most time in is where my heart is. I think that
maybe I am going to send an email in anyway. The place in
which this was taken is from Matthew 6:21. Here let’s
look at this together and you allow God to move your heart.
19"Do not store up for
yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves
break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22"The eye is the
lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of
light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.
If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24"No one can serve
two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
It seems to me that this person was saying
that if you put your money here your heart will also be here. I
personally find that my time is more valuable then money itself. I
do understand that we need money to do the things of God’s plans and He will
put it on the hearts of those He chooses to make things happen to His glory.
God blesses who He blesses. But taking God’s Word
and using it in a way that is not in context is the wrong way to raise money. I
want to store up my treasures in heaven and not here on earth. I
do not measure my wealth upon a worldly scale I measure it in the eyes of God
and how He wants me to be. I guess if I was to put my
heavenly wealth upon a worldly scale it would measure more then the richest
worldly person. My mere existence to share the Truth about
Christ and His Bride measures greater than anything that the world will ever
know or can see with their eyes or touch with their hands. The
wealthiest people of this world are the ones devoted to doing the will of God
according to His plans and many of them have no worldly wealth at all and
depend upon God to supply their very next meal. Here is a
scripture that I think would motivate people to give an offering:
2
Corinthians 8:19
What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering,
which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our
eagerness to help.
18And
we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches
for his service to the gospel. 19What is more, he was
chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we
administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to
help. 20We want to avoid any criticism of the way we
administer this liberal gift. 21For we are taking
pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the
eyes of men.
Think about it.
