“Customs”  (HEAVY MESSAGE may not be suitable for young readers)

I was praying this morning looking for what the Lord wanted me to write about today.  I was put in Genesis of all places to speak about customs that this world has made for themselves.  Not Godly customs but Worldly ones.  I have read this part of the Bible many times and it repulses me to read it but the Lord told me that this is happening in our world today as well and we need to shed light on it.  OK so here we go buckle up.

30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."

Here was a man trying to protect his children from harm and they brought it upon themselves.  Lot had saved his daughters from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.  His wife looked back as the destruction was happening after the Lord told her not to and was turned to a pillar of salt.  These women were so wrapped up in what the “customs” of the world that they not only brought sin on themselves but on their father as well.  There are 40 places in the NIV that “custom” is used.  By the looks of them they are mostly customs that were made by man and not God.  All of the ones that man has created can lead to sin.  OH, I hear the moans and groans out there.  If your custom for any moment removes your focus from Christ it is a custom that will lead to sin.  Maybe not for you directly but someone that adopts your custom and adds their own little twist to it will lead down the wrong path.  Husbands, wives, children you are to keep your marriage bed pure.  Do not lay with one that is not your wedded spouse.  Same sex marriage is not acceptable in the eyes of God.  This is a custom developed by the world not God and man has been twisting the Truth to make it acceptable by the world for many years.

So not all customs are bad.  We only make them that way.  Christmas for example is to be a time of celebration for Christ.  We have turned it into a frenzy of gifts and going into debt up to our eyeballs every year.  I challenge you to put Christ back into your Christmas.  Look at Easter what is up with that?  Point here is that we need to teach proper customs and teach that all customs should make us turn our eyes back upon Jesus.  Sin is sin and Jesus is the only way to get forgiveness of that sin.  That being said then, Jesus is the only answer for the world today.

Matthew 7:7-8
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
