“The Simple Life”
This morning in my prayer time I
was taken back and I mean WAAAAYYYYYYY back to my early childhood.
My minds eye could actually see the street in which I was raised.
I named the house and who lived there and even remembered the color of
the houses. I remembered my buddy Rusty that I used to play
with. We would spend hours playing with our Matchbox cars
building cities in the dirt with streets and buildings made of sticks from the
pecan trees that we played under. I remember that we would
spend 5- 6 hours building the cities and then it would be time to go home.
Didn’t touch a car one, nope spent all our time building the city.
I remember old man Dubois that used to sit on his porch with a Beebee
gun just waiting for one of us kids to step off the sidewalk and onto his
grass so he could shoot us with that gun. He left it on the
porch one day and my buddy and I went and coated it with rotten eggs we found
in a trash can. Needless to say he wasn’t very happy
about that but he never told our parents because he knew he would be in more
trouble then us. I remembered Mrs. Sweeney and her rain
buckets. Rusty and I went down her driveway and dumped all
her rain water she was collecting to water her plants with. Well
she did tell on me, funny though I do not remember the punishment for it.
Oh yeah and I remember when the Le Blanc’s moved in next door to us.
He was cool for an old guy (He was probably in his late 20s LOL).
Lonnie was always building something. He rebuilt the
garage and let me help as if I could help but it was fun he would let me climb
up the ladder onto the roof when he was shingling it and he had a welding
machine and we built a trailer. Well actually he built the
trailer I just made messes. I am sure you are wondering
where I am going with this. Well to be honest so am I other
then I remembered back in my childhood how simple things were. I
know mom and dad were having a time of it but they never let us kids see it
either that or we were just oblivious to it at least I was. As
long as I can remember we took summer vacations to the lake and daddy was
always working on the house usually he would wait until the week before
Christmas when everyone was coming over to our house it was fun I guess.
Mom was usually frantic but he always managed to get it done, granted
the paint was usually still wet but he got it done. I
really miss those times sometimes. No computers the TV was
black and white and we had this old stereophonic record player. I
wonder if those times could ever be duplicated so that my children would know?
My 11 year old asked me for a cell phone.

21:11
When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; when a wise
man is instructed, he gets knowledge.
