“Spit That Out!”

How many of you have heard that?  I know as a parent I say it often to my kids and then I add,  “What are you a two year old or something!”  You know and then you see your kids put a toy in their mouth or a piece of something that is huge and you know that they could choke on it and you yell it out.  “Spit That Out!”  Could be something new that you try to eat.  Oh yeah it may look good but once it hits your taste buds YUCK and what do you do?  “Spit That Out!”  Come on you all have had that experience too, where you grab that can of soda thinking it is cold and carbonated and it ends up room temperature and flat.  I know all I want to do is “Spit That Out!”  Or you pick up your favorite food or atleast it looks like your favorite food and you take a big ole bite and eeeeewwwwww it taste nasty like it’s been there for days.  “Spit That Out!”  Here’s the one that grosses me out the most.  Big ole glass of milk and you get a big mouth full and oh man it’s sour!  What you gonna do about that?  “Spit That Out!”  You know there are these super duper speakers out there that like to make their money motivating you to do things.  They want you to get out there and do it yourself.  They tell you that you can do it.  You don’t need anyone.  Take pride in what you do and who you are and the skies the limit.  Ladies and gentlemen that sounds sweet and smells sweet and it even looks tasty but I want you to “Spit That Out!”  Why you ask?  Because, we can do nothing without Christ.  You see they almost got it right but they forgot the main ingredient.  They even use scripture to back what they tell you.  The problem is they forget to tell you the price.  These people package a good product but when you get it to your nose and it smells sweet you take a bite and it will be bitter.  What the read in scripture is all true don’t get me wrong.  But they forget that the only way we can succeed is when we die to our flesh and allow Christ to lead us in everything we do.  Then my friends we will be successful.  Then all the things they told you will be tasty and sweet and only then.  You know what I can save you hundreds of dollars if not thousands of dollars.  The only book you need to figure this out is the Bible.  The Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!  The B I B L E well that’s the book for me I stand alone on the Word of God the B I B L E.  Music to my ears.  A song of Truth.

For those of you who do not have a relationship with Christ, God can send you some bitter things that make you spit.  You see Christians doing it and partaking of it and it is sweet to the smell and pleasant to the eyes and you think it is tasty but you take a bite and it is bitter and you do not understand why.  Without the relationship you can’t taste the sweetness of God.  Without Jesus Christ in your life all that you see and smell that you want, will be bitter.  We store up treasure in heaven.  We look beyond the world at our eternity through the relationship with Christ and wow is it sweet.  But a non believer would “Spit That Out!” because he cannot see it.  He cannot savor eternity without the relationship.  Let me give it to you in a different way.  I like jelly beans.  You like jelly beans.  We get identical bags of jelly beans.  Lets say you don’t like licorice but I do.  These jelly beans in all their bright colors all taste like licorice.  You get a big ole hand full and pop them into your mouth and OOOOOOOOOOO you “Spit That Out!”  You don’t like licorice.  You got a mouth full of bitterness.  Beloved without a relationship with Christ that is what your eternity will be.

God can serve up some bitterness.  Look in the old testament.  But why did He do such a thing?  Well He kept standing there telling the people to “Spit That Out!”  and they wouldn’t listen to Him.  So what did He do?  He gave them more bitterness to chew on.  They began to fear that bitterness.  But they kept going back to the stall to get more of it.  You see sin fulled them into believing that it was sweetness that they were tasting and even in the desert the manna that was given them to eat even became bitter.  The Israelites complained about having to eat manna day in and day out.  What did God do?  Well he gave to them what they said would be sweet.  As a matter of fact He gave it to them morning noon and night.  Now after eating the same thing morning noon and night it becomes bitter.  You see through their own selfishness, which is sin, what they thought was sweet then now want to, you guessed it “Spit That Out!”
